What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese Medicine is a complete system of professional medicine that has roots dating back thousands of years. Over the course of several millennia scholars and clinicians in China gradually developed and refined a profoundly effective medicine that now serves a substantial portion of the population all over the world. The most basic tenet of Chinese Medicine is that our physical, mental and emotional health is dependent upon the life-giving properties of energy and blood that flow throughout the body system. We experience good health and a sense of well being when we have abundant energy and blood that both flow smoothly and uninterruptedly to nourish all bodily functions. Qi (energy) or blood flow that is either lacking or blocked can result in pain, lack of vigor, emotional distress, or even serious illness.

Unhealthy lifestyle leads to energy imbalances which consequently cause prolonged discomfort, illness and disease. Chinese medicine strives not only to provide symptom relief, also to restore vitality and a sense of well-being. Professional treatment may include one or several modalities such as: acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion/heat therapy, massage therapy, and Gua Sha.
